I feel like I have to have pictures to update... Not this update.

Cohen is weighing in at 17 pounds now. He is 6 months old, has 2 teeth on the bottom and the top two are on their way. He was a penguin for Halloween. He can roll all over the place on the floor. He is trying to learn to sit up, but often topples over because he is so round. His favorite toy is his blue bear blankie that Grammy Ruth gave him. He also loves his monkey and white blankie that Aunt Joan made him. We started him on rice cereal about two weeks ago. He loves the spoon. Of course he is a good eater. I hope it continues. :)

Cohen was four months on Sept. 11th. He weighed 15 pounds 1 ounce. We had a good report from the doctor.

Today marks two weeks of daycare for Cohen. He loves his babysitter and the other kids. He is soooooo tired from playing all day long that he has been going to bed early! The other kids love him and entertain him all day. Mom and Dad are getting boring at home.

Cohen did his first 5K this past Saturday to support Ozark's Cross Country Team. He was awake the entire run just a talking away. I think he was telling mom to go fast... Cohen was first in his age division.

Cale's family came to visit us last week! We had Cohen's dedication in our living room with tons of family present. Bruce Hayes led the dedication prayer for us. Cale and his racing team put on a bike race on Commercial Street Saturday. He also raced in the Sunday OCC race. Monday, we went to a Springfield Cardinals game. Lots of fun in a short time span. Grammy Ruth is going to stay with us for two more weeks!!!! More photo options later...

2 Month Check Up

Cohen had his first vaccinations Monday. The nurse started him off with grape flavored Tylenol and that was fantastic tasting. Then she gave him an oral vaccination and he loved it. She could not believe what a good medicine taker he is. Anything he thinks is food…

Then THE SHOT. He turned red and opened his mouth and gasped… then the SCREAM. Well, he actually screams and cries harder for food. I think I took it the hardest. He was over it in a few minutes. We go back in three weeks for two more shots. We are spreading out the vaccines.

He weighed 12 pounds 8 ounces with a light diaper on… almost a pound in one week.

Sorry. I need to post some new pictures.

Cohen is 2 months old today! He slept through the night for the first time last night 10:30pm to 6:00am. I woke up around 3, 4, 5 and 6. Cale even woke up at 5:30 completely confused and asking me a ton of questions, "Has he not gotten up yet?", etc. We are so proud of little boy. I hope it is not a one-time-deal.

Cohen is tracking very well now. He watched me walk back and forth three times the other night. He can really hold up his head for a long time.

He laughed at Grandma Rena on Wednesday for the first time. He has laughed in his sleep before, but this was the first laugh at a person.

He weighed 11 pounds 11 ounces on Monday! Chubbo!

Cohen had a play date Saturday with his new buddy Jackson. Jackson's mommy, Amanda, and I grew up on the same street with one house in-between us. Jackson is about 5 months older than Cohen. Don't you love Jackson's outfit? Cohen has the exact same one.

I took Cohen to get weighed Monday. He weighed 10 pounds 5 ounces. He has been eating very well. As he was getting weighed, he pooped in my hand, on my shirt, shorts, flip flop, foot and then the scale. Ooppps.

Also this week, Cohen's vision is improving. He is really tracking things and looking at us. He is smiling more and more. He is such a fun baby.

Tomorrow, Cohen is one month old. We can't believe how fast the time has gone. We got his picture taken today...it was very funny to watch him get his picture taken. He slept through the first few pictures. Then, he woke up after we changed his clothes.

First Camping Trip

This past Saturday, we decided to go camping in Rogers, Arkansas. Cale finally found the camper of his dreams... well almost. Cohen was the best little boy! He enjoyed his first three hour truck ride, helped cook dinner on the grill, slept his normal night, and was a great kido at daddy's bike race Sunday! We could not have had a better trip. The icing on the cake was that Cale got first place in the mountain bike race!!

Most of you know Cousin Emma! She turned 4 last week. She is a miracle baby and we are blessed to have her in our lives. She can make anyone smile!!! (I love the picture of Aunt Mary Beth. She looks like she wants to play with Dora more than Emma does... )

Cohen attended her 4th birthday bash and of course did his norm... slept through the entire event. Love the shoes... they were a gift from Cohen's friend Simon.

Grandma Rena bought Cohen a stroller. He is too little for the regular seat, so we had to order an adapter. The adapter allows him to be in his car seat snapped into the stroller. The adapter has been on back order, but we finally got it. Cale, Cohen, Heinz, Penny and I try to get out as much as the weather allows. Cohen and I have even been to the mall. We had to use the Sear's bathroom to change his diaper. He is a trooper and can go anywhere without a fuss.

Birth Story

A little late, but I thought some might want to read about Cohen's birth...

Sunday 5-10, Mother's Day, 9:30 pm:
Cale and I went to bed and I started feeling something different in my lower belly. It did not hurt, but was definitely something that I had not felt at all during the pregnancy. The contractions continued through the night. I did not sleep because I was trying to watch the clock. Cale did not sleep either because I kept getting up and down. I think I went to the bathroom 50 times.

Monday 5 - 11, 1:45am:
I finally decided enough was enough...this is it. The contractions were 5 minutes apart for an hour. I wanted to take a shower before we left. Cale heard the shower, so he came in and asked if I was sure this was it. My instinct said yes, but the rest of me thought, "I have no idea what I am doing". We were not in a hurry, so we took our time gathering all the things we needed. Cale dog-proofed the house and we were off to the hospital.

3:00am:
We arrived at Labor and Delivery to find that my elementary - high school friend's mother was working. When we arrived, I was only at a 2-3. She gave us the option to walk for an hour or go home. We debated and decided to stay. We went to walk the halls. Cale videoed me having a contraction (can't wait to laugh at that later). After an hour of walking, we went back to our room. My water broke and they sent us up to our delivery room.

Time gets fuzzy from here:
Once in our delivery room, I waited for an epidural. The epidural did not hurt at ALL. I can't imagine why anyone would choose to have a baby without it. :) After the epidural, we just played the waiting game.

12:30pm:
I was at a 10, so we started the pushing process. Once again - love the epidural. It took me a while to figure out how to push correctly. 3 hours later Cohen arrived. He had the cord wrapped around his neck, so the doc cut the cord right away (later, Cale got to cut the cord closer to Cohen's belly). Cohen was so quiet. He did not come out screaming. Just the opposite. He just looked around and looked extremely confused. Finally, he made a few sounds. We were concerned, but he came around and we got to hold him.

Hospital Stay:
We were so fortunate. There were several people watching out for us: my friend's mom in Labor and Delivery, a student Danielle that I had in student teaching was a nurse on the delivery floor, and a volleyball mom Lynne. I can't remember Lynne's job title, but she kept checking on us throughout our entire stay.

NUTTIN'

Yesterday, I had a doctor's appointment... NUTTIN' going on. I was a little swollen, but my blood pressure is holding steady... under the 140/90. Cohen is a happy little boy that likes where he is... he does not want to meet everyone yet. I don't know if he is afraid of all the outside noises... school kids, math lessons, Heinz and Penny wrestling noises, or Dad yelling at the sports games on TV.

I also wanted to send cousin Emma hugs and kisses in St. Louis!!! We love you.

38 week Check Up

38 Week Check up: Cohen is doing well and so am I. We had a good doctor's visit after a week of resting and eating Grandma Rena's cooking.

Cale surprised me with a bouquet of flowers this morning. He is such a good husband. Above are some Easter pictures. I love my crocks. Today, we had our second ultrasound. Cohen is a very healthy little boy! He weighs 4lbs 11oz. We got to see some 3D pictures of him. I think he looks like his cousin Emma did... so probably like every other baby. I need a scanner before I can post the pictures, so I will post them when I get back to school.

The funniest part was when Cohen licked his foot! Don't most babies suck their thumb or fingers??? Not ours... he likes his feet. Flexible little guy. I guess he might be more like his brother and sister than we thought (Heinz and Penny).

Almost 31 weeks

Just an update on Cohen. Last week, he was a very active little guy. The books say he is over 3 pounds now. Mommy has gained a little more than the 3 pounds.

We have changed our ultrasound date to Thursday, March 26. I can't wait to see him again.

5K

Yesterday, Amber, Simon, Cohen, Heinz and I participated in the Ozark Upper Elementary's 5K. Simon and Cohen tied for first in their category. Amazingly enough, Heinz won his category too (he was the only dog in the race, but he didn't know that). The weather was beautiful and all three boys behaved liked angels. Amber and I felt good enough to go to I-Hop afterwards. It was a beautiful day.

March 18, we have our second ultrasound. We hope to continue to find out healthy news. I plan on posting Cohen's second picture after the appointment. We start baby classes at the end of this month. I am sure with the classes we will have some good stories. I hope Cale and Cohen behave. I wonder how many times I will say that in the next 18 years? :)

I am very blessed to have such good friends that I have been able to ask all sorts of questions. Thank you!

Who's walking who?

Heinz and Penny took me for a walk this afternoon. It is almost 60 degrees here, so I thought the dogs needed a walk. It was really nice out. I even ran into a neighbor friend, Carol. She is our second neighbor that we have told we are pregnant. I don't think we are the most social neighbors. :)

Heinz and Penny raced for the couch and bed when we got home. I am headed that way to put my feet up for the night. I have a great husband. I just made him a list for the grocery store and he is going to make a run, and grill out for us tonight.

Family Shopping

Cale, Cohen and I went shopping this past weekend to register. Our first stop at Babies R Us (in Toys R Us) was fun and we had a great time. Cale enjoyed the register gun. The second stop, Target, was more crowded and we were tired. I still don't know what to do about bottles... I can figure that out later. :)

There is so much stuff for such a little person. Any suggestions on where it all goes?

No More Running

I ran like normal for the first three months, but not every day because of volleyball. I just listened to my body and I surprisingly felt good. Months 4 and 5, I would run once a week, swim, stationary bike, or elliptical other days. I have still continued lifting, but I have reduced the weights drastically.

This last week, Cohen has decided that his mother should not be running anymore. The weather was fairly nice, so I decided to go outside. I took off like Forest Gump, but of course at a snail's pace. I felt great. I had no idea how much I had missed running outside. Cohen and I made it somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 mile when reality caught up with me. I felt like I had a medicine ball taped to my stomach. We ended up walking the curves and jogging the straights on a track. Thus, ending my running for a while. No big deal. We plan to get a jogging stroller and hope little one likes to bounce around.

I spent over two hours searching the internet for baby bedding. I did not see anything suitable. Cale and I were wanting to leave the walls a khaki color and use red, black and white for the baby room. We are happy with simple.

After searching the internet, Grandma Rena and I went to explore the world of baby products. We went to Target first. I felt extremely overwhelmed with all the products. There is so much stuff to look at. Every isle I would ask myself more than once..."What is this used for?" and "How do I know if we need this?". I simply gave up and wanted out of there.

We went to Toys R Us next. We tackled stupid strollers, argued over diaper bags, and fiddled around with other products. I was starting to feel better about things. Mom is very patient. I just needed to look around and get things straight in my head before I jump into any purchase. I get that from my mother and father.

Last stop was Baby News (I think). They had tons of bedding, but nothing red, black and white. I am thinking that I will just get random crib sheets within the color scheme with designs like stripes, polka-dots, etc. I saw some red bumper pads, and maybe I can find some fabric to make the crib skirt. Don't babies just kick off the blankets when they sleep or throw up on them??? Do things really have to match? I don't think our little one will care one bit as long as he is warm, fed, and clean. What does he care about his room? :)

I seem to be blog happy tonight... My wonderful husband downloaded the pictures for me, so I wanted to post them ASAP before I had a bunch of papers to grade.

Cale and I went to visit Simon Greek last Friday. He was a perfect little man. Doug and Amber gave us lots of great advice especially how to swaddle. They say it is a lifesaver. So, we have been practicing on Heinz. He is the best little baby and enjoys the swaddling. Thanks Doug and Amber!

Cousin Emma bought Baby Mac two outfits for Christmas. Maybe on Wednesday we will find out which outfit best suits Baby Mac. Uncle Travis had us open the boy version first, so I wonder if he wants to be an uncle or an aunt??? If this baby is a boy, I know who will turn him rotten... UNCLE TRAVIS!

Baby Karate?

I have been feeling the baby move since mid-December. Christmas was the first time I could feel the little karate kicker on the outside. I have been wanting Cale to feel the baby too, but of course it is too random to tell him when it will happen.

Last night, Cale felt the baby for the first time. "Little bitty" as papaw likes to call the baby, thumped Cale twice. I am glad he is the first one, besides me, to feel the little one. "Little bitty" moves a lot these days. Nothing major, just little thumps here and there and of course they are random. He/she has only had one party (after I ate Nakato for dinner).

A week from today, we have our first ultrasound scheduled. We are most interested in the health of the baby. Then, of course, if the baby will cooperate, we want to find out the gender. We will keep you posted.
